How does the new crop of anti-science deniers here in global warming compare to the clever titans of the past?

JamesE, Jello, etc?

(I noticed that Sagebrush recently displaced DaveH/Northwest Jack -I think it was- on the top ten answerer list for this category of Yahoo

Update:

CR: I haven’t kept track really. It is probably Portland and NW Jack who are the more common Tweedledum and Tweedledee pair. But DaveH is at least a similarly relatively (for YA) clever denier. I seem to recall that it was NWJ on the top ten list, however.

  • Cyclops, Sagebrush, Madd Maxx and Portland NW Jack are right up there with the titans who ran the Spanish Inquisition and the titans who forced Galileo to recant.

You mean to say that DaveH is also the same person as Portland and NW Jack? If that is so, he is in the running to have as many fake accounts as Gangnam rapper, Pys Gual

  • The brightest of the anti-science deniers was Randall, who changed his name periodically, usually to the name of some soccer player, like Didier Drogba. He could actually form complete sentences and paragraphs. I suspect he was quite successful financially. I think he might have given up because he finally realized that he simply did not know the science.

Jello (or Dr. Jello) was someone that I suspected might actually be paid to spread disinformation. He seemed to have little invested in whether what he said was correct or not. Once he was displaced as the top answerer by Dana, he went away–although he miraculously reappeared after Dana’s account was suspended, then disappeared again when it was reinstated. I thought maybe he only got paid for his Q&A IF he was the top answerer. If you pointed out factual errors in his questions, he would block you from answering them. He would always say that if someone wanted to be unblocked, all they had to do was send him an email and ask nicely…but if course you can’t send an email to someone that has blocked you.

James E. was kind of a hoot–I liked him. He was more than a little bit crazy. He used multiple aliases, but nobody else wrote (or thought) like he did, so it was easy to tell which answers were his, even he was using a different name. I hope he is ok, his answers got very short and then he disappeared entirely.

There was one very entertaining guy that claimed to have multiple Ph.D.’s, a law degree, and also a movie actor/producer. Every few days he seemed to claim some new superpower.

jim z’s brother was definitely one of the brightest on the denial side, and I think a bit mellower than jim. As jim z has related, he got quite sick, so I hope he is doing better.

There was a guy with a Ph.D. in statistics that had gone the USAF, he was definitely more knowledgeable than most–but then he also did not fully reject AGW either.

The earlier Ottawa Mike used to be more open-minded, but he seems to have settled firmly into his anti-science position.

Generally the deniers of today seem to have little clue what is going on scientifically, and draw most of their arguments from blogs on denial websites. It’s funny that there are no true skeptics that can make REAL scientific arguments about AGW. Most of their supposed “contradictions” come from overgeneralizing and misinterpreting headlines (not even articles) from newspapers and magazines. Clearly the denial side needs a real scientifically literate skeptic. As it is, I think the best skeptics are those of us that generally accept AGW, but question particular findings.

EDIT: I would seriously doubt that DaveH is the same as Portland Joe/NW Jack. I think DaveH is a scientist, I’m pretty sure the other pair is not.
