In the U.S., the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services requires that nursing homes are inspected on an annual basis between 9 to 15 months. That would include the dietary needs of residents, as well as an inspection of the kitchen. Some counties in states have county regulations, where local health departments may inspect their kitchens as well. Surveyors may also receive complaints throughout the year from the public, which could include dietary issues.
