  • The IPV4 address (the internal computer address) can be changed by setting up a static ip. Goto cmd, type “ipconfig”, w/o the quotes, look for local area connection. Keep cmd open. Now goto (assuming you have windows 7) control panel>network and sharing>connect to a network (or networks, local network, somethong like that)> right click your connected network, goto properties> goto the tab that has a box in the middle, one of the listed options in the box say “…ipv4 address…” dunno the other words, but double click on that. Now click the radio box next to ” use static ip address” and fill in the blanks. The dns2 will either be 0.0.0.0 ( if dns 1 is 192.168.0.1) or 8.8.4.4 ( if dns1 is 8.8.4.4) THERE YOU GO a static ip.

  • Open Network Connections. Click the Start button, then click Control Panel. In the search box, type “adapter,” and then, under Network and Sharing Center, click View network connections.

Right-click the connection that you want to change. Click Properties. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Click the Networking tab. Under This connection uses the following items, click either Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) or Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6), and then click the Properties button.

To specify your IP address for IPv4, click Use the following IP address, and then, in the IP address, Subnet mask, and Default gateway boxes, type the IP address settings.

To specify an IP address for IPv6, click Use the following IPv6 address, and then, in the IPv6 address, Subnet prefix length, and Default gateway boxes, type the IP address settings.

A typical IP address looks like 192.168.0.2; a typical subnet mask would be 255.255.255.0. The Default Gateway is generally the address of your router. For example, the numbers for our system are as follows:

IP Address: 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.12 (for multiple computers)

    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

    DNS: 192.168.0.1

    Click OK.

  • Your Internet IP address is assigned by your ISP. Turn off your modem, wait 1/2 an hour, turn it back on. The ISP will assign you the next IP address available (it may be your old one. but chances are it won’t be)

  • If you have access to the modem, release the ip from the modem. Wait a few hours, then reestablish.

You are at the whim of the ISP. DHCP will dole ips out, but sometimes DHCP will dole out the last IP you had if available. Sometimes it uses the least used IP.
