How to deal with my mother who is so gross sometimes?

My Mum is overweight and walks around the house like an absolute slob. She coughs and splutters everywhere without covering her mouth, burps like a man and speaks so loudly and rudely. She does NO exercise and does northing to make herself look and feel good. She constantly complains and gossips – I am fed up and feel disgusting around her. I wish I could tell her to use her manners. How do I deal? I can’t stand her behaviour.

Update:

@Melissa D

I’ll talk about my mother how I like. And it’s true, she’s like that. It’s reality so there’s nothing wrong with talking about it.

  • Unfortunately we were all born from parents – and we’re usually stuck with them until we’re adults! So until you’re 18 or are out on your own, you’re sort of stuck with her.

    For the time being, just kindly suggest one of those times that she not cough out in the open, or that she doesn’t burp or maybe that she clean up after herself. Is she a single mother? If so, part of her letting go of hygiene could be that 1.) She doesn’t have anyone she “needs” to impress, 2.) She doesn’t have any responsibility.

    Suggesting things like getting a dog, or dating someone, or something to get her up off her bum might effect other areas of her life.

  • I think we have the same Mom. Let me know the answer to your question, because I doubt there is a cure for our mothers behaviors.

    Just be happy your Mother isn’t a fat tramp with short dresses and platforms and piercings at the age of 48.

  • You can’t change her… you can only sit her down and tell her you love her and are worried about her health as she does not exercise. Her habits are her own, just be happy you don’t have them and make damn sure you don’t begin to imitate any of her habits as kids will often develop them later in life.

    Good luck (burp)

  • That’s no way to talk about your mother. Maybe if you had a better attitude you could ask her to go on walks with you. Cook dinner for her, one that’s healthy. Appreciate what you have; you only ever get ONE mother.
