How to make our dog love us again?

We have owned a 2 year old chiuahua since he was 3 months old. He has always been very close to my family and always would follow us around/ get super happy when we came back home from some where. He has not been neutered yet.

He was the only dog until last week when we got a 9 week old female chi puppy. Now the chiuhua pretty much follows the female pup around all day and doesn’t come close to us very often. It is almost as if he doesnt care about us any more. Also he is always trying to hump the female chi and if we try to stop him or intervene he bites us very agressively. We are planning on getting him neutered very soon but in the mean time is there any way we can stop him from trying to hump her or be so agressive. Also do you guys think after getting him neutered he will be a little more interested in us again?

We do keep the female chi in a play pen most of the time but he will just sit by it waiting for her.

Thanks

  • Get him nuetered! That would solve a lot of your problems with him.

  • You might want to get him neutered as soon as possible or her spayed. It doesn’t take much when you’re not looking for collisions to happen….

Usually people get a second dog so the first can have a playmate. If that wasn’t your original intention then the only thing I would say is to get him clipped to avoid extra puppies. I heard (and I could be wrong) but animals that have not been fixed act differently towards animals that have. I’m not sure if that’s true.

It’s hard to see him shifting his attention back because now he has a new conquest.

Try playing with him more. Separating them periodically so you can have time with him.

  • It just a male thing, whether you are a puppy or a young male. A cute lady catches your eye and he forget the parents. He still loves you, he just thinks he has a love interest. He will not stop humping until you get him fixed. Getting nutered seems to calm the males down usually.

Any dog of mine that did that would leave on a one-way trip to the vet.
