I remember when the fight was official, everyone was like, he’s cherry picked, but how is he cherry picked if he WAS THE WBC WELTERWEIGHT CHAMPION.

He wasn’t a cherry picked opponent. Before Ortiz, Floyd was criticized for not fight a Welterweight in their prime. He had been criticized for not fighter someone bigger than him. Then he chooses Ortiz as his next opponent and the excuses start rolling in. Ortiz is also a southpaw and many people believed Floyd would struggle against a southpaw.
He was coming off a 16 month layoff and had only fought twice since 27. He could have fought anyone to shake off ring rust. Instead he took on someone who was young and would no get tired after 3 or 4 rounds.
I never said Ortiz was a cherry picked opponent.
He wanted back the WBC title but he could have gone for the WBO title holder too in the Welterweight division as well and on top of that would have been a MUCH bigger purse but we all know about the politics in that!

I wouldn’t call it a cherry picked opponent, although I believe Victor is not the fighter Floyd fans made him out to be, he deserved the shot for beating Berto. That’s what I don’t get about all the talk about who Manny and Floyd have chosen to fight over the last couple of years, there’s not a lot of great competition out there. Manny fighting Cotto, Clottey, Margarito, Hatton, those were some of the best fighters of the last 5 years and exactly who he was suppose to fight.
Cherry picked is not the right word but most Boxing fans beleived the fight was fixed….
Never seen a referee signaling the start of the fight but intentionally doesnt want to look at the fighters…
Never seen a Champion kissing his challenger and after the fight he was all smiles that his challenger robbed his belt with a sucker punch..

He’s a paper champion. Floyd Jr. saw Ortiz got knocked down by Berto TWICE. He saw someone hittable and beatable. So he cherry picked Ortiz over Pacquiao.
World Champion doesn’t mean SH!T. You’re supposed to fight OLD LEGENDS or fighters coming off of losses or beatings! AND YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO FIGHT AT CATCHWEIGHT!!! Belts don’t mean anything!
