I am a medical assistant and I was wondering what practices look for in your background check?

I recently accepted a new position in medical assisting. I was told that the practice is still conducting my background check through another company. What do they search for in these background checks? I know I have bad credit and I’ve also had a couple of charges (non-felonies) that were dismissed. I recently tried to get a new apartment and I was denied because of my credit and the credit report said criminal. even though the charges were dismissed. Could this possibly happen with my new job? Please, anyone with knowledge on medical background checks, can you please help me?

Update:

They only asked if Ive ever been convicted of a felony. I haven’t.

  • If the criminal charges are showing up on your background report, then they most likely were not dismissed. If I were you, I would request your criminal background check through your state Highway Patrol and see what is on there.
