I can't believe what I just read!!!…?

I’ve just read a question saying that the big bang never occured and there were loads of people agreeing with whoever said it. I thought we had left behind the days of believing the earth was flat etc. Is this really what they teach in America? Is there anyone who agrees with me? If not I’m going to stop using this site as I’ll know its just bible bashers using the site to preach nonsense to weak minded fools.

  • Dude chill it’s just those bible thumpin jesus freaks trying to prove god exists.

  • Unfortunately we are not past the point of ignorant and superstitious being in the majority. Yes, the scientific evidence for the Big Bang, relativity, and evolution are overwhelming, but most people never see this evidence or understand it. Instead they moan about how unlikely it is, which only means they haven’t taken the time to understand it or to actualy look at the evidence. Usually they don’t even know what the scientific theory actually says.

BTW, *theory* in science indicates a high degree of confidence, bolstered by evidence and tested repeatedly. A scientific theory is not simply wild speculation.

  • What bothers me is not that people don’t believe the big bang theory. I am bothered by the fact that people will just take the bible as absolute truth without even trying to develop their own ideas and beliefs. The big bang theory is just a theory and people are free to believe or not believe whatever they choose. However, to believe or not believe something just because someone else tells you to is to lose the very thing that makes us human.

also, if something has been proved beyond a shadow of a doubt then it is not science. science has no dogmas. if a theory cannot be false, then it is philosophy. all scientific theories work this way. Even gravity: Newton threw down his best guess and later Einstein corrected his theory.

  • The Big Bang Theory is ‘a theory’. A theory, by definition, lacks enough evidence to make it a ‘fact’. So, until the Big Bang is a proven fact, there is plenty of room for debate about the validity of the theory.

Best wishes. Remember, everyone of us has the potential to be ‘a weak minded fool’.

  • I can’t believe this…its like the fact that many states are actually teaching intelligent design as a SCIENTIFIC theory….something pulled out of your behind as an excuse for what people used to not be able to explain. the proof that the big bang happened is many things…such as how it agrees with many of our current scientific knowledge, and how we can still hear leftover radio waves created during the immense energy release that was the big bang. thats mostly what static between radio channels is!

  • I don’t think it’s fair to say that saying the Big Bang never happened is equivalent to saying the Earth is flat. The earth is demonstrably shperical, and you don’t even need to go to orbit to do it. The Big Bang has the status of being a fairly strong theory, but physicists and astronomers do have competing theories which also look plausible.

  • So your saying, out of nowhere we just kinda happened??? Yeah now thats logical. How does the earth being flat have to do with the Big Bang Theory??? You’ve got your 5hit missed up, read on the Theory and then come on here and post.;-)

  • The Big Bang, like any theory has to proven scientifically. There is much evidence to suggest that there was such an event. this can be checked, Jesus walking on water? although I believe in Jesus, there is no evidence that he actually walked on water, just written suggestions that something like that might have occured. Now, I am not suggesting that it never did, but if you want to believe that, no one can tell you otherwise.

As for the bbt..you can believe, or you can go to the library and do research and find real evidence. however, to understand much of it, you better bone up on your gravitational physics. ;).. good luck.

  • i guess i kind of think of it as a window into a certain subset of (mostly) americans, with a smattering of people from elsewhere thrown in to make things more interesting. it is true that the education level here is often appalling and frequently dominated by bible bashers with an extraordinary level of narrow thinking.

and you do need to wade through a load of serious crap on this site to get to good questions and answers. but i do think there are fair amount of people who see this as an opportunity to help educate the ignorant. i try to think of it that way when i lose my patience with the insanity.

it certainly has taught me how freakin warped america is, how culturally lost, and how unbelievably alienated from themselves and other people. but i consider that a lesson, since i don’t hang out with these sorts IRL.

wanna hang out with smart people? then this isn’t usually the place. it’s full of people who like to be smarter than the others, like to practice their trolling. and those who try to hold the sails in the face of the winds of idiocy. (perhaps an exercise in futility.)

(not sure which i am, btw.) i think i just do this instead of playing games.

  • Umm, It’s called the Big Bang THEORY because it is just that, a theory. It’s all educated speculation at this point. We have no definitive proof one way or the other, but evidence indicates several possibilities. I’m with you though if there are books teaching kids that ANY of the speculations are fact…

  • There is no reason why we can’t all consider the possibility that the LORD created the universe from a big bang….if that’s really how it was done. It may not be, but the Lord did indeed create it. Science may discover the mechanism some day, but they will never discover the ‘source’. Ever searching, but never finding.
