I gave my dog to help her go to the bathroom, alka setlzers and it worked really good?

but now I can’t use it anymore because she is on Lasix. She is urinating a lot better. I think she had urine stuck in her as well. So since she had the alka seltzers and Lasix at the same time, does anyone know what sort of effects that has? Her lungs are filled with fluid and she is being treated with different medications. I wish that she wasn’t constipated in the first place and I wish that her coughing and stuff like that would have stayed healed when it stopped in the first place.

  • Ask the vet what kind of laxative to give her. Her urine wasn’t “stuck in her.” Her heart and kidneys were not working properly, probably because she has serious heart disease, and fluid was backing up into her lungs. The lasix helps her kidneys to excrete the extra fluid and the other medications probably strengthen and regulate her heart beat.

But she should not be straining to move her bowels. That is very bad for her. I would first try adding some fiber to her diet. You can add bran buds or you can add cooked pumpkin – not a tiny bit but a good quarter cup or more. If that doesn’t work, then she will need a stool softener. Ask your doctor to recommend something you can buy over the counter.
