I need some help on what would be the best idea to lift my 96 chevy k1500?

I found out that most chevys have a torsion bar adjustment and I found it underneath my truck and looks pretty easy to adjust. I think it lifts your truck 2 inches in the front. Anyway Ive heard some bad stuff about doing this is it a good idea? I am planning to lift the rear as well I want to add a leaf spring in the rear to level it out.

If I were to lift my truck 2 inches would it be enough to fit a 33 inch tire? I can currently fit a 285/75/17 tire, stock.

A body lift is an option for me put Ive heard they are cheap and your truck is basically sitting on plastic which is why I dont really want to do that.

  • Yeah, just get a leveling kit, don’t do that. A body lift is cheaper and doesn’t mess with any of the suspension and drivetrain parts, so parts will last longer (u-joints, CV axels, things like that). Trucks have worse handling with suspension lifts too. Oh yeah, a good suspension lift is at least $2k, a decent body lift is about $3.
  • A lift kit without a plastic will cost about $1.0-1.5
