  • Lets see what we got here…

    Kiddie black belts.

    Black belt club.

    Old folks in wheelchairs.

    Religion.

    Large fees.

Extra fees for more than two lessons per week.

    Seems legit.

Source(s): That’s rubbish son, avoid it at ALL costs!!!

  • Who cares. This McDojo thing is old. In the 16’s Miyamoto Musashi wrote; “there are no warriors that clearly know the martial arts in the world today.”

“These days, men making the way through the world calling themselves martial artist (side note some “major contributors in this forum, this is you) are generally only teachers of techniques.” “…these ways a proffered as merchandise…. One talks of this dojo or that dojo, teaching this way or that way, in an attempt to gain some benefit.” “Various arts have been tailored to be items for sale”

He goes on to say how dodos just pop up with no real understanding or proper teaching. He talks of “form is made into ornament and technique is made into display”

The McDojo has been around since at least the 16’s so forget it. Just find a place you like, if you feel you are benefiting or learning then be happy with it. If they don’t teach you what you want to learn or how you want to leave.

  • It seems as if it is a spin-off of Wado Ryu which is a great art which, while their history is with Jujitsu and shotokan, the founder also trained with Motobu. the 8th dan which has no connections to Japan is a bit fishy as does the children with black belts then there is the price, way to much!

that said, the kata that the video shows seem to be acceptable for many styles (bothers me a lot that children are wearing black belts) the sparing shows control which some styles like so I would not dismiss them as a bad school.

  • Yepp. I mean in the first sentence it says: “I believe that with God everything is possible”. You are going pray as well?

Then you have the prices. 2$ registration fee and 85$ a month after that. That’s insanely expensive. And then it says: “Training geared toward achieveing black belts”. This means that they are more or less a black belt factory.

No I wouldn’t go there if I were you.

  • In my opinion this school is a place for those that are interested in sports karate. I would not join this place as it would not meet my goals in learning self defense.

They have children black belts. They have kids clubs and black belt training that cost more than normal training in that school. Those are more than enough flags for me to steer clear.

But it might be exactly what you are someone else is desiring. Everyone do not want a more traditional school like I do.

  • I believe it is a mcdojo.

    1 website focused on kids

2 mentioned kata’s and kata tournaments. A kata tournament is basically a dancing competition.
