I'm getting really depressed about growing up?

I’m currently on summer vacation and about to start my senior year of highschool. The thought that this is my last year in school makes me really upset, i’ve been listening to so much nostalgic music from my middle school years and I often cry because my teenage years are about to end. All i’ve ever known is about to change. It’s about to be time to get ready for college and honestly I’d rather stay home the first two years at a community school just so i won’t have to leave my parents. the thought of me being away from them breaks my heart. I feel so bad about growing up. Is this normal? why do I feel like this? help?

  • Its very normal 🙂

If I were you Id think about all of the opportunities you’re going to have.Your still young and you have your whole life ahead just think of all the new things you can do once you grow up start a family of your own,go on vacation, buy your own house, begin a career! One day you’ll be looking back on your adult years and thinking I don’t want those to end!Even though your getting older you can do the same things you’ve always done and more. You can still visit your parents or live near them. You’ll get new experiences that you may even enjoy more than your old ones.If you get to the point where this sadness is keeping you from moving on in your life you may want to talk to someone about it like a family member or friend.

  • It is normal, its OK, you are soon finishing school, thats huge! Its a big change., its the future its Ok to be scared, lots of ppl are when they finish school.

Im much older than you but when I finished high school i was terrified, I was quieter and awkward,so had a huge disadvantage in that way.. and I hadnt really thought of life beyond school, I remember how scared i felt, but once I settled into college life/study etc and got used to it ( I lived at home as luckily my college was in my town and it saved money) You can still meet ppl if you live at home. Give yrself a chance to adjust, if you need to go away to college that’s OK, there will be lots of ppl in the same situation as you, you will meet friends there and experience a new life.

Think of it this way maybe, you will be starting a new life, you can still see your school friends, noone is saying forget them! but… you will make new ones at college, its hard change, any change, but you will be OK, and you will always remember school, trust me you never forget school! your memories will be there.

  • I’m short on time but I would really recommend that you read The Catcher In the Rye. It really helped me go through what you’re going through.

  • This is normal. You have to go through this phase. All teenagers have to go through it. It will pass do not loose your heart.
