Is 14 too late to start competitive swimming when I have almost no experience in swimming?

I have played basketball for 5 years and I want to end because my coach is crazy, I am good at basketball but he does not give me any minutes, and I do not like basketball that much as I did before. I am not a pretty good swimmer, I am skinny, and no one never swam from my family. But I heard swimmers have good bodies, and that is something I want. Can I start swimming seriously, and when not in pool then exercising and maybe cycling and doing other sports? I did not really like playing in water, I wanted to swim, but I know only one stroke. But I think I am pretty good at it, but it is the slowiest one.

  • There was an Olympic swimmer (I forgot her name) that began swimming at the age of 11. Not too far off, so there’s still hope! It doesn’t matter how thin you are, nor if you’re the first to swim in your family. I’m a twig and I’m also the first from my family to do competitive swimming for 5 years. I suggest you join a private swimming team where they will teach you how to swim all 4 strokes. It’s also fun to compete.

    Good luck!

  • It’s definitely possible, especially if you already have strength and stamina. If you decide to take swimming seriously, you could probably catch up to competitive level in just a few years! And one stroke is already great. If you know the basic foundation to swimming, it shouldn’t be too hard to learn the others. Just start taking lessons and also go for regular public swims. Seriously. It’s never too late even for competitive.

    Good luck!

  • no if you start practicing then you can get really good so follow your dream
