Is it possible for a male neutered (2yr ago) cat to still produce semen?

Ok, I have 3 cats all fixed (for over 2 yrs) 2 males, 1 female. The males do not have visible testicles. One of my males was fixed at 10 weeks the other at 2 yrs. Recently, my female has started to look and act pregnant. My female was recently at the vet (unrelated) and everything looked fine with her. A month later and she has a swollen belly and swollen milk glands. I find it more likely the vet (from 2 yrs ago) didn’t fix her correctly. I didn’t worry because i knew my males had been fixed and they never go outside. I have caught my males on more than one occasion trying to mate with her. Could she be pregnant, have a false pregnancy, or is this a symptom for something else?

  • I owned lots of male cats over the years and have NEVER seen a male one trying to mount an altered female cat. Did YOU pay to have all these cats altered or did you just go by the word of someone else saying they were? Get her to the vet for a spay/abort if she is pregnant.

To answer your question – no – neutering removes the testicles and that’s where the sperm is. While a cat can still have some in the tubes for a little while after the surgery a cat that was altered would definitely not be producing sperm.

  • Spay and neuter surgeries are the most common type of surgeries performed in veterinary practice, so it is extremely unlikely that any of their operations were done incorrectly. In males, it’s the testicles that produce semen, and the testicles are removed during a neuter. As a result, they can’t produce semen (and therefore can’t impregnate your female cat), but they can still ejaculate.

The mating behaviour you saw could be due to the fact that one of your males wasn’t neutered until he was 2 and already sexually mature. It also might be them reacting to your female. If she was old enough that she went through a heat cycle before being spayed, her hormones and behaviour at that time may have caused the males to react in such a way.

As for the problem with your female, I don’t know what caused it. Again, if she was spayed at 8 months and was near sexual maturity at the time, her hormones could’ve triggered some mammary development, but if you’re concerned, you should really just take her to the vet. It’s never a good idea to make a diagnosis yourself from things you look up or hear online.

  • If your female is not spayed, she may be having a false pregnancy, which is not good. Unless this male only had one decended testicle he is not capable of producing sperm 2 yrs later.

If the female looks pregnant and is spayed, then it could be a tumor, cyat, etc. Have her checked by your vet now and find out what is going on.

  • I have a female cat, fixed at 7 months old, she now 3 and iv seen her being mated witj by a fixed male! No idea why, but hey ho.

She may be having a phantom pregnancy, my rabbit had this also, and I was sure she must have escaped, but no litter, and this went on for 3 months! Your vet would be the best one to ask. I have heard of neutering going wrong, but never a spay, after the falopian tubes are cut, thats is, no reverse. UNLESS it was requested she just had her tubes tied. If it wasnt you who got her spayed, double check with the vet.

Do please update us. This is a intresting question

  • Semen and sperm are two different things. Sperm is stored in the testes and is the baby maker. Semen is the fluid the sperm swims in and semen is ejected from the prostate. So when your males mate they still eject semen but not sperm so no babies.

It is unlikely your cat got pregnant especially if she got spayed so you should take her to the vet since her swollen ‘chichis’ could be a mammary gland infection.

Plz update, curious what vet says.

  • after a male is fixed they can produce sperm but only for a short time then its all out of system vet told me this after neutering my male & i had it done because of female in heat so i still had to keep them seperate it doesnt matter what species of male this is true in all males humans 2 men after

being fixed have to go bk to dr to be sure all sperm is gone b4 its a forsure thing animals some x do have false pregnancies id take her to the vet because it cld be sm thing else wrong because wen you fix males & females there is not any mistake to be made because in a female the

reproductives organs r removed uterus ovaries fallopian tubes ovaries produce eggs & the uterus carries the babies vets remove all these so if she was operated on meaning she was spayed she can not get pregnant period

males will still try with a spayed females cats dogs ect & females will try to mate males even after being both fixed ??

with a swollen belly it can be a tumor ect or infection ect you really should get her to the vet asap , the vet you wld take her too did this vet spay her ??

if she wer mine id get to the vet asap call them in the moring & explain your males were fixed & your female was spayed & was at vets 1 month ago & now appears pregnant ? explain all her symptoms to them ask for the vet to call you him or her self & then see if he wants to see her

i wish you best dont wait to long cld be serious if she was not spayed id say she probably is pregnant but since she was spayed do not wait it cld really be serious

  • Try visiting the vet again. I’ll let you know, that cats do tend to wander off at night to places you are not aware of. Some get out of windows and go to alleys (may have happened) they mate with stray cats and come back.
