Is it worth the money to get small hail dents out of my new Ford Focus?

I have a 2013 Ford Focus (bought it last fall) – it has the custom candy blue metallic color on it. Well, a week ago we had hail – it was big enough to leave dents on my car. I didn’t have enough time to get it into the garage, but I threw a cover over the hood as soon as I could (hail started coming quickly so I couldn’t cover everything). I later discovered that there are tiny dents on the car…I found 2 on the passenger side (door and near the hood), there are at least 2 noticeable ones on the roof (a few more if you look carefully) and at least 3 or 4 noticeable dents dents on the trunk…and more if you look closely. When I say noticeable, I mean noticeable when you look at the car’s reflection – they are not big or medium dents…they are actually quite small. I’ve had about half of the people who looked at my car tell me not to worry about it, and about half saying to fix it or else it’ll bug me (and it does bug me!). My insurance deductible is $5 – so that is what I’ll have to pay (insurance estimated $870 in damage, but my autobody shop estimated at least $15+)….I *really* do not want them taking my car apart (PDR)…and honestly I want them just to fix my trunk since that does bother me, but the autobody shop said it will cost almost as much as my deductible, so I might as well get everything else fixed.

SO – will these small dents (I can see about 10-15 throughout the car, mostly on the trunk) hurt the value of my car? It’s pretty new, and I think I’ll have it for 4-5 years, then trade it in. I take really good care of my belongings, so knowing that all of these dents happened within 5 minutes really bugs me, but I’m also a “penny pincher” so I’m not sure i’ts worth the money. These dents are not noticeable if you walk by the car – but some are noticeable if you see the sun’s reflection on the trunk/roof without having to concentrate to find them.

  • Google for “Paintless Dent Repair” service in your area…..they can repair for considerable less than Paint and Body….
  • You should do as you see fit with the car. My suggestion would be that since this is a new car, and you can envision trying to trade it, get the dents fixed. Most people might not see them, but an appraiser certainly will.
