Is Japanese or Korean easier to learn?

I would really like to learn either of these languages, but I was just wondering which one is easier. Thanks!

  • Japanese !
  • I think Korean is easier. Mostly for writing.

Korean uses an alphabet called Hangul which can be learned in a few hours while Japanese uses a syllabary (an alphabet of syllables) called kana and uses Kanji (Chinese characters) which are difficult. To really be able to read you need to know over 2,0 Kanji, maybe up to 3,0. This will take years.

Although I haven’t studied Korean, I’ve heard that the grammar is not too different from Japanese. They share many similar features, so I don’t think there is a major difference in difficulty and both languages are both easy to hear and pronounce. Neither uses tones like Chinese for example.

You may also consider if you have any Japanese or Korean people to practice with in your area and other language learning resources.

It also depends on which one you are more motivated to learn. But if you like either of them just as much then Korean will be easier.

  • According to the US Foreign Services Institute, they are about the same level of difficulty for a native English speaker, requiring about 88 weeks (22 class hours)(about half that time preferably spent studying in-country) to achieve proficiency. However, because of the extremely hierarchical nature of the Japanese language, I think Korean will be easier. For instance, this infographic shows that with logical principles, you can learn to read Korean in just 15 minutes: http://whatstheeasiestlanguagetolearn.wo…

But for a native English speaker, these languages are fairly difficult.

  • No Language is easier to learn, It is what you do with the language that counts what are you interested in the style of ones language? the culture, people, country, there history? think of that please.

I learn German because i love the people the forefather of English and there historic language.
But would i say it easy? hell no! even though their counsins in relation, because there inflected in the direct object which english is not and revolves words around the object.

If you do not find a way to fully intergrade into a given language, and have an excuse because i want it to be easy then your interest will lose very very fast. Languages need time to work on with effort.

But which is harder by lingustics it is Japanese is the hardest language for native english speakers to fully comprehend the language, time is all about how much time you put in it this then result in good or bad results, with your living circumstances, how often you use it and so so many factors are included.

So to answer Japanese is native is harder in hind sight, Korean is easily spoken than Japanese, for the English person in GERENAL.

    No language is Easy
