The Country Greece has gone into financial crisis because many of their people don’t pay tax, so I guess none of us like it, but it helps keep the Country afloat…but many of us never get the benefit from our tax dollar we pay.
Some economists, especially neo-classical economists, argue that all taxation creates market distortion and results in economic inefficiency. They have, therefore, sought to identify the kind of tax system that would minimize this distortion.
I suppose just like in economics models, there is a point of equilibrium, where there is just a right amount of taxation. Beyond that we get diminishing returns where paying more tax dollars continues to benefit society to a lesser and lesser degree. But yes, I believe we need to taxes to some degree to pay for roads, police, parks, etc. What we don’t need is an authoritarian government that controls us and tells us what to do.
