Is there any way to update my laptop’s graphic card?

I bought Sonic Generations on the PC yesterday and every time I try to play it a critical error comes up saying “No valid Graphics File found” Can I fix this without having to pay loads of money?

  • Only a few specialist or gaming laptops have upgradeable graphics.

    (But, for info, a lot of larger machines do have socketed, upgradeable processors).

    You can upgrade the graphics driver though – figure out what make of graphics chip it has (probably Intel, possibly nvidia or ati), and get the latest video driver from the appropriate web site.

    There is a very good online utility that will check your machine so see if it has the ability to play various games, and tell you what capabilities it has or are needed.

    See the link:

    edit: Extra links added to intel’s info on game graphics, and Microsoft DirectX – if that is missing or out of date, it may cause the errors you are seeing.

  • There are very few laptops on the market at this time that allows you to change the graphics card. If your laptop is not one of these or very similar, than I have bad news for you;

    Asus g Asus G Asus G Alienware mx-…. or any high end gaming laptop. That’s about it. All the mainstream level and entry level laptops have the GPU integrated onto the motherboard or in the CPU itself if your laptop is using the latest line of Intel CPU’s.

  • You cannot change or upgrade the graphics card of any laptop, just like you cannot upgrade the processor of any laptop. If you require a better graphics card, you will need to purchase a new laptop. Or simply purchase a normal computer instead, since with a normal computer you can upgrade the graphics card and processor when required.

  • some may have a slot contained in the side or again, the position there is only a plastic ‘plug’ yet you may replace playing cards. or you’ll pick to take off he again and replace it. in case you do not sense gentle doing this, you may take it into an section like computer international, who will do it for you (even as attempting to promote you plenty products!!)

  • …………’think you cannot upgrade the graphics card in your laptop because the video card is built in the motherboard itself, not like in desktop that there is a slot where you can plug and play your video card(vga slot)

    ..you’ll need to buy a new laptop if you want to upgrade your video card,,,,,,,,,
