I don’t really need to repeat what some of the users have said about salmonella and not keeping a wild animal, but you should really take that under consideration. Don’t brush it off because you think differently. It’s not something that you should take lightly. Trust me…it’s not smart.

Many problems can arise from having a wild caught turtle. The largest being an eating problem. In the wild, the turtles are used to having to look for their food. They are constantly looking. Domestic turtles don’t have that problem. If you have a wild caught turtle, they may not eat the pellets that the pet store would sell you, they wouldn’t know what to do with them. Wild caught turtles tend to have all sorts of diseases that may not affect them but do affect us or other animals. Wild caught turtles put into captivity also would have much undue stress put on them. They are free one day and in a cage the next. Many wild caught turtles get sick and die because of this. Many wild caught turtles will die of starvation once placed in captivity.

By removing wild caught turtles from their native environments, we put pressures on the native populations. This only adds to the already problems of habitat loss and environmental pollution. Because of these factors, many turtle populations have decreased dramatically and many are dangerously close to extinction.

Thunder. Like using storm type names for turtles. Turbo is a good name too. Stick with that.

Wow. That’s truly a horrible idea.

Wild animals are not appropriate pets. In fact, it may be illegal in your community to keep that turtle in your home or to otherwise remove it from the wild.

Additionally, turtles carry salmonella. And since kids have a tendency to not wash their hands and put them everywhere, it will probably spread.

No name ideas, but a couple good care sites, and a reminder that to keep a turtle healthy is a moderately tough job- especially wild-caught specimans.

Where did you find it? If you didn’t buy it from a proper supplier the turtle could be infected with something. Get it checked by a vet first.

Do your kids know of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? Maybe they’d like to name it after one of those, like Donatello or Michealangelo or something.
