Literary Criticism on Nathaniel Hawthorne?

I’m doing a research paper about the author Nathaniel Hawthorne. My instructor wants a lot of literary criticism about him but I can’t find any good reliable sources online. I have the NCLC book that he’s in but we were all kind of neglected when it came to learning how to write papers our fresh/soph years of school (our teachers were all about grammar and Shakespeare both years) and we were given a rushed mini lesson on how to write a decent paper. It’s % of our grade and if we fail it we won’t pass the class which is a bit extreme since we had no previous preparation; she just kind of expects us to magically figure it out I guess but it isn’t her fault we don’t know any of this since all of this is supposed to build and build over the years and well we haven’t done any formal writing the last two years. Anywho the whole point of that shpeel wasn’t so much so you guys would listen to me complain but more so to lead into this next statement which is: If you know of any good websites that dumb down how to write a decent research paper that would be really helpful or have examples of literary research papers that would be nice too. Most of the time if I look that up I get science based papers and stuff that is not helpful at all.

  • You want the Perdue OWL Online Writing Lab, linked below. They will walk you through the various formats. What they won’t do is find the research for you. You’ll need some serious, scholarly sources–on paper. Sorry, but there it is.

You are welcome to email me if you have questions. (I had ten years of teachers who put me in your position, so I had to learn the writing of them the hard way. I can coach you through some of what you’ll need, if you don’t find what you’re looking for in the OWL.) Good luck!
