  • In order to take a medical coding and billing course, you will need to have your high school diploma or GED. There are no other prerequisites. I really like the Career Step Medical Coding and Billing training https://www.careerstep.com/coding/?uid=a1403 It is all online so you can work on it when you have time. It is self paced too. From that link, you can view a demo of their course and get more info on the medical coding and billing industry as well as the Career Step training.

It costs approximately $2,200 but they are giving away free laptops to people who enroll this month. You have to call in to enroll and mention the laptop promo.

As far as pay, the Department of Labor has stats on that www.bls.gov/oco/ocoS103.htm

  • It is very difficult to get a job in the medical billing and coding field. Especially just coming out of school. Most employers prefer to hire people with years of experience.
