More ram, DDR vs less ram DDR ?

I have gigs currently installed, running in dual channel. sticks are gb crucial ballistix capable of running at —… and i also have gb sticks in there a bit slower at —…. so my question is, would i be better off with just the gb ballistix in dual channel running at — and mhz, or gb running at — at mhz? My main performance use is starcraft witch apperantly is processor dependant. I also have a gt. I tried overclocking the ram to mhz, and it didn’t work. had to reset cmos, wouldnt even post. so… anyone with knowledge.. computer science guy, benchmark guru, anyone, please chime in. once again, I play starcraft . and both configurations are dual channel.

  • Your gigs is actually slowing you down… Dual channel is just that dual sticks… Your sticks of ram are using actual dual channel slots, but then you have installed a rd stick in another of the dual channel slots that automatically shuts the dual channel off…

Broodym, when have you ever seen a Gb stick of ram? Gb is sticks of Gb, dummy…

  • You would be better off with the faster RAM.

Let’s say that I have a little poodle trying to carry a gallon of water from point A to point B, the dog will take a while to carry the water the distance, whatever the distance may be. I want to speed this process up because I really need some water and I have two options to speed it up: .) get another one gallon bucket/bottle/whatever (even though you only have one gallons of water) or .) get a faster dog. It’s the same with RAM, if you aren’t using more than you have, then the only way to increase performance is to increase the speed of your RAM.

Oh, I misread that the first time, I thought you were debating on getting gigs at or gigs at .. it’s still the same answer though, as long as you are not using more than gigs, you would be better off taking the other stick out as the gigs will slow down to the speed of the added gig stick at .. but, you really won’t notice the difference, as someone has already said.

  • Mark N doesn’t know what he’s talking about; you have sticks of RAM which still enables dual-channel mode. You’re better off with the GB set, but if you find you need more RAM (which you probably won’t), then having MHz RAM won’t affect your performance much at all.

  • I don’t believe your RAM is an issue. Rule of thumb is that if you have RAM of different speeds installed, they will all operate at the lower speed.

Your GPU on the otherhand is not in the same class as the type of GPU you want to be playing Games with and it is the GPU that will make or break a game.

    Your card…

    Example…

Clock speeds are much higher on the example than on your GT.
