My dryer leaves clothes and blankets smelling of Wet Dog!~ Please Help?

Okay first I will tell you some stuff about my situation :

I do not have any pets of any kind. Our Landlord will not allow animals in the house.

*** Also it is NOT my washer that is causing this.

My washer smells great.

When My wet clothes come out of the washer they smell excellent.

I use liquid soap and fabric softer too.

After this issue came up I bought those new washer additives that are supposed to make your clothes smell great! They work until they run through my dryer.

I have year old front loading washer and dryer in my house.

Here is the strange part:

The dryer worked great until we had our baby. I bought these mattress protector pads for his crib. So if a diaper leaks or something the pad protects the mattress. Right when I pulled them out of the package they smelt odd. I washed them and didn’t notice any issue. I used bleach. Then after they came out of the dryer, the whole load smelt of wet dog!

I stopped using them in the dryer at all but the smell has never left my dryer.

I already cleaned the whole inside of the dryer with bleach twice!

I cleaned the lint trap then ran it through the dish washer too.

If you put your head inside the dryer when it hasn’t been used in a day or so, everything smells fine.

But without fail, every load of clothes I put into my dryer comes out smelling of wet dog. I even started to use dryer sheets also to see if that would help…. No luck!

My hubby checked the exhaust vent to make sure it’s not blocked and were fine there.

I cant afford a repair man right now. We just had a baby and I have a year old too. We just moved into a really nice house and our rent is pricey. I need to try and fix this with an at home fix.

I have read lots of posts on here about stinky Washer machines. This is not my issue at all. I made sure. I washed a load of clothes in my washer and my neighbor lady let me use her dryer to see if it’s for sure my dryer…My clothes smelt great coming out of her dryer.

Please help! I am freaking out. I want to sell my babies clothes on eBay but I cannot do this if they smell like this. My hubby is not sensitive to smell but even he doesn’t like this.

I will try anything at this point!

Thank you!

  • You can cure dryer smells with white vinegar.

Place a clean towel in the dryer. Then pour or cups of white vinegar onto the towel and run on High for about an hour. That’s it. Although if the smell is really bad, you might have to repeat this treatment after a few days.

Also, make sure to remove dry clothes promptly. Leaving clothes in the dryer often leads to dryer odors, even if the clothes are clean and dry.

  • That’s a tough one. There could be something stuck to the heating element in the dryer. If your ‘hubby’ is handy he may be able to take the back off and take a look. Other than that, if you know the brand name, you could always try to contact the manufacturer to see what they suggest

  • I think wet smells more. I also heard that dry is better for the teeth, but I think it depends on the specific kind of dog food that is best for them – not necessarily whether it is wet or dry.

  • Did you find a solution? Mine smells like smelly feet and would love to hear if you fixed the issue! Thanks.
