Our daughter has a hospital bill under my husbands name can we transfer responsibility to her.?

My husband is being taken to court over a bill for our 19 yr old daughter, she is willing to take responsibility for the bills she incurred because she was not covered on our insurance but used the insurance card anyway. We are trying to buy a house and this is drastically affecting us, not to mention now they are trying to garnish his wages for 4x the amount. Is there a way to settle this cheaper or just have it transferred to her.

  • She is an adult, and you can notify that she was an adult and not living with you when she incurred this bill. Tell them that you are not going to be help responsible for a bill that you knew nothing about for your ADULT child. Tell them that you want this bill transferred to her name immediately, and you want it reported to the credit bureaus that you are not responsible for this bill. Tell them that they have no right to put something like this on you credit report, when you are not responsible for it, and did not sign to take the responsibility for it. If they refuse to help you, Tell them that if they do not do something about it, you are going to hire an attorney to sue them for falsely using your name and credit.

  • Ahhhh…..you’ve got real problems.

For them to already be in guaranshee means they already have a COURT DECISION for this. You did not fight this BEFORE the court case! They now have a valid claim against your husband! He can’t change that now.

All you can do is initiate a counter suit against your daughter for her to take financial liability for her own stuff.

It cannot be “transferred”. You already let all that pass. The bill needs to be PAID.

Have your daughter get a loan and pay off YOUR debt.

This is how you transfer the liability.
