Question about JSA (college student)?

I am college student on full time course (college call it’s full time course, but it’s only 10 hours per week)

I just had interview with job seekers allowance and they said, I cannot apply for JSA because it’s full time course, I said okay for college it’s full time course, but global for UK it’s not. We can call this ‘part time’ course because it’s only 10 hours per week, then she changed hers mind and said okay I will pass your information next to other people to see what they will think and she arranged for me sign up date every Thursday. However I will not carry on for a long time to receive JSA only for these days until I will find a job. What do you think about these hours, we can call this ‘full or part time’ ?

  • to get JSA you have to be available for work, you sign to say you are available, if you are at college then you are not available

  • Anything under 16 hours at college is classed as p/t

are your 10 hours spread over several days,

because that might be where there’s a problem of signing on as being ‘available for work’

my son at college p/t as was refused JSA, but every case is different depending on how the course

is spread out and over how many days

Remember you can appeal, if they refuse
