What should I do if an online store is not refunding the money I paid for an item I never got?

In December 2012 I purchased a coat on this website: http://www.sheilafashion.com/ The coat was supposed to be delivered 1 month (at latest) after my payment had been processed. By the time I made the purchase, I was living in Ohio, but was about to move to DC in January 2013. Fearing my coat wouldn’t reach me on time and would be delivered just after I had moved from Ohio, I decided to contact Sheila Fashion through their website and e-mail, but never got a response. A month went by, I moved to DC, still got no response from Sheila Fashion and the coat I had ordered, had never been delivered. Soon later I realized there was a phone to the company through which I might be able to contact someone directly…and so I called, someone took my call, I exposed my issue and got told that my item had not been delivered and would never be since they had had some delivery issues. The guy who I spoke to said they would refund the money to the account from which the payment had been made. I let them know that wouldn’t be possible because I had canceled that bank account regarding I was moving into another state. The guy said they would make a money refund through Western Union to keep it simple. I gave him away all the necessary personal data about myself in order to carry out a perfect money transaction through Western Union. A few days after, he emailed me and said now I was able to go and pick up the money at some Western Union agent, so I went to one of those, but was not able to take the money…I NEEDED SOME CONFIRMATION CODE FOR THE TRANSACTION!! I emailed this guys back again letting him know about the recent issue and said that in the next couple days he would send out a confirmation number so I could pick up the money. And so more days went by, he never emailed me such confirmation code. Then I kept insisting, emailed them, called them, tried as many ways as possible to contact someone from Sheila Fashion…until the guy replied my emails telling me to give him some more days to complete the money transaction. TO ME THAT MEANT HE HAD NEVER MADE THE FIRST MONEY TRANSACTION! So I said that was OK, that I would be expecting his confirmation in that week. He kept asking me for more time for several times, until one day he disappeared and would never contact me again at all. He was fooling around with me and I was so pissed. I had trusted the company and paid $63 for an item I never got. That may not be a large amount, but it means a lot to me. Many months later he showed up again asking for more time and so that’s how I’ve spent the past months…being laughed at and made a fool of. I’m just so angry, frustrated and feel so powerless. I’m just an exchange student in the US and cannot find a viable way to finish this up. All I know is that I won’t give away my money just like that. Currently, the guy’s been quiet again.

Any suggestions?

  • Sorry to read that you lost money to a scammer running a scam but happy that you found this site to post your story.

    Thanks for posting up that information on a scam.

    Making a scammer’s scam googlable on every scam-warner-anti-fraud-busting site you can find is a great way to slow that scammer down when a suspicious potential victim goes looking for information, finds your post containing the name the scammer is using, his email address, phone number and the emails themselves and then that potential victim does not become a scam victim because you took the time “get the word out”.

    Wasting a scammer’s time legally and safely is called “scambaiting”. If you google that word, you will find sites where you can read scambaits, post up the emails and email addresses of scammers, post up a fake website, read up on how to alert a hosting company that they are hosting a fake website, ask questions and learn all about the hobby of scambaiting.
