Refixing a house? house needs lots of work?

okay basically. i live in a really nice house not gonna lie with my 3 siblings and parents. it was built around 2003. we built it. we paid high end decorators to style it, bought brand new furniture, appliances, hired painters, floorers, landscappers, basically everything. back when my dad had a great job. in like 07 he lost his job. my mom had to start working again. and me and my siblings were in all private schools. which is so pricey. the over the next 5 years the house dwindled away because my parents didnt have the extra money to maintain and take care of it. now it seems like all the sudden everything needs replacing/fixing because they never maintained it when stuff broke. so now its one huge expensive project. im 16 and i have 2 sisters and one brother. my brothers in college and my sisters are twins in 8th grade. my parents are paying for my bros college and all of our schooling. me and my sisters are ashamed to have people over. its getting to a point that i dont ever want to come home anymore. we keep the house clean but everything is so old and grimy. the walls are nasty, the couches have holes and tears in them, some door knobs broke and came off. our dogs tore up our screened in porch.

basically my dad has a good job now and so does my mom and with summer coming it is the perfect time to fix up some stuff. where should we start? how much does carpeting cost roughly? we live in a 5k square foot house if that helps?? whats your advice for fixing stuff up on a budget. were not super handy but me and my mom are. sorta? haha. i mean we can paint some stuff. ive seen design on a dime and house flippers and shows like that that help u fix up and design for cheap.. but where do u think we should start?(: thanks

  • Where do you start? Forget the house for a minute. Go look into a mirror and ask yourself this question, “If my parents had this beautiful home built, and the economic situation has caused my dad to lose his job, while still sending your brother to college and you and your sisters to private schools, where do I get off being embarrassed by the appearance of the home?” I wish you could grasp exactly what a selfish brat you come off like in your message above. Your parents opted to forego the upkeep of THEIR home to try and allow you and your siblings to have a better life. Are you paying for any of the repairs? If not, what do you plan to do other then complain about what gets done. Get ready for the real world, because it is the complete opposite of what you think it is.
  • start with wall paint and furniture slipcovers, both will give the biggest impact. keep slipcovers a neutral color, add pattern and color in throw pillows or throw blankets. door knobs can be inexpensive and found in all places-even put an ad on craigslist looking for some since people throw out older yet functional pieces all the time.
if u want to do carpet room by room, check out home depot. they have some 2’x2′ short shag (frieze) carpet tiles you can DIY on your own, per room as money and time allows.
this is a big world, we all live in it together and i think its critically its important to live and let live while maintaining compassion, patience an a non-judgemental attitude.
    good luck to you all.

  • According to my view, you can keep retractable screen door to protect from it. This is the right solution for your problem and you can get ride of it. This is the right solution for your home. And you can also keep some frames in it. This is what you need to do to solve your problem. I had also faced same problem which I comeback with few weeks ago then I used retractable screen door which solved my problem.
