Regarding Paintball markers. Is there an alternative to CO2 for propellant?

Is it possible to buy a system that allows me to refill canisters with compressed air from my home air compressor rather than paying to have CO2 cartridges recharged? Seems like it would be alot more cost effective and convenient. If not, why?

  • If you’re asking if you can refill your CO2 tanks with air, no you cannot. The tank will hold the pressure, but it has no regular.

If you asking if there is another propellant you can use, of course. High Pressure Air is used by anybody serious about paintball. It’s more consistent and cheaper in the long run. Tanks start at about $40 new. However you cannot fill this with your home compressor. Paintball tanks hold up to 45psi and the marker requires somewhere around 8psi minimum to operate (depending on marker). Your home air compressor only goes up to about 120psi. You can buy a booster pump for a few hundred bucks if you really wanted to.

  • HPA (High pressure air) tanks. In most cases there are the carbon fiber tanks that many, if not most, people use now. Its not a new tech either. Carbon Fiber tanks for use with paintball have been out for a long time now.

  • yup, compressed air tanks. you can refill them with a scuba tank if you want to
