Should a sperm bank charge the donor a fee to donate his sperm?

I’m looking into becoming a sperm donor at the local sperm bank, and by the bank’s rules, they charge you over $2 to bank your semen plus a non-refundable $85 consulation fee? Is this normal practice with sperm banks, or are they not supposed to charge the donor this much? I’m new to all of this.

Thanks

  • I assume you looked at the wrong service, sperm banks also provide storage service for people that want to bank their own sperm for their own use. Some men need to undergo cancer treatment that might render them infertile or others are afraid that due to their dangerous work they risk more loosing procreative capacities. If you become a donor to help infertile couples, lesbian couple’s or single mothers by choice you will be paid money. Look again in their informartion or call them to ask.

  • Pierre is correct, I think you’re looking at the wrong kind of facility. You need to talk to a facility that specializes in anonymous sperm donation. People get PAID to donate, you don’t have to pay to donate.
