is it illeagal to record a a song like from youtube from a Voice Recorder and then put it on your computer then on your iPod?

Two provisions of the copyright act prevent copying and sharing of a copyright work.
If you copy the song without payment to the author or distributor it is illegal.
Even if you record a compilation of your favorite tracks from CDs you’ve bought it’s illegal. Copying = breach of copyright.
Has anyone been sued for doing this? Not that I’m aware of unless making hundreds of copies for re-sale.
