What am I doing wrong? (solving quadratics by factoring)?

Here is the problem and how I did it:

x-√x+=√x+ original equation

-√x – -√x –

x-√x-=

(√x+)(√x-)=

x-√x+√x- = x-√x-

√x+=

– –

√x=-

(√x)/=-/

√x=-/

(√x)^=(-/)^

x=/ <<

√x-=

+ +

√x=

(√x)^=^

x= <<

The works but / doesn’t. Why?

Answer

  • To solve radical problems you must isolate the radical part so when

    you square both sides the radical disappears.

    x-√x+=√x+

    x – √x =

    -√x = – x

    √x = ( – x)/-………….square both sides

    x =( – x + x^)/….multiply by

    x = x^ – x +

    x^ – x + = ….this is our equation after all radicals are gone

    (x – )(x -) =

    x – = and x – =

    x = ……………….x =

    x = /

    y= is the x axis so I checked by graphing my two equations:
