  • Well, most people usually go for Martin Luther King Jr., or Malcom X, Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks… but if you’re looking to go a different route i’d say Carter G. Woodson (aka the Father OF black history), Jean Augustine (helped Black history to be recognized federally), Daisy Bates (TREMENDOUS woman and civil rights activist), Thurgood Marshall (First african american justice), or Nathaniel Clifton (first African American to play professional basketball). Sorry for the terrible grammar. I’m on my iphone and bored in class.

Source(s): History buff, but there are plenty of sites that will give you more ideas.

  • Maybe Sojourner Truth, perhaps one of the first female abolitionists.

Sojourner Truth (play /soʊˈdʒɜrnər ˈtruːθ/; c.  – November , ) was the self-given name, from onward, of Isabella Baumfree, an African-American abolitionist and women’s rights activist. Truth was born into slavery in Swartekill, Ulster County, New York, but escaped with her infant daughter to freedom in . After going to court to recover her son, she became the first black woman to win such a case against a white man. Her best-known extemporaneous speech on racial inequalities, Ain’t I a Woman?, was delivered in at the Ohio Women’s Rights Convention in Akron, Ohio. During the Civil War, Truth helped recruit black troops for the Union Army; after the war, Truth tried unsuccessfully to secure land grants from the federal government for former slaves.

**The c. before her birth date means “approximately”.

Add remarks about her famous speech, “Ain’t I A Woman?”

Don’t use wiki as your sole source, if at all. Google her name and/or her speech title and you will find tons of info. Any site that has “edu” in its web address is perfect. It indicates that it’s from a university.

  • This is such a racist assignment, there should be a white history month, a chinese history month and a brown history month etc.

However, in response to the question, I would say Tupac

  • Rosa parks is pretty unoriginal.. try to find someone who participated in the children’s march.. that’s really interesting, you could also do a black singer for example Rebecca Naomi Jones from American Idiot the musical would be cool.. also you could try Michelle Obama, hope I helped a bit..

  • Even if they are unoriginal I’m going to list all i can think of and you can decide off of them:

    Obama

    MLK

    Rosa Parks

    Jackie Robinson

Whitney Houston (I’m not sure if you want to do this but it could work)

Orpah (again i probably wouldn’t use her)

    Homer Plessy (really good one)
