  • It depends on many different factors. If you are adopting through the foster care system in your state, it will cost almost nothing other than the legal fees to finalize the adoption. If you wish to adopt a Caucasian infant here in the United States, your costs will run anywhere from $20,0 to $35,0. If you are thinking of pursuing an international adoption, plan on spending anywhere from $16,0 (China) to $40,0 (Russia and Guatemala).

  • As many of the previous answers indicate, it is dependent on the type of adoption you pursue.

Private adoptions can run expensive especially if you are required to pay for medical expenses of the bio-mother. You would also have legal fees, and still need to pay to have the adoption home study done (typically by an agency), etc.

International adoptions can be extremely expensive because of all the regular adoption fees, and then also the travel.

Domestic Adoptions typically require less money than the others, but you still pay the agency a fee, and then pay all the fees for criminal checks, finger print checks, etc. You also have the expense of a home study, court costs (for finalization), and possibly travel (if the child is born in another state). You also pay the agency to do follow up studies as required by the state prior to the finalization.

Adopting through your state’s foster care program is also an option and typically the state will assist with many of the fees and costs.

My suggestion would be to contact a local adoption agency and they will best be able to describe everything to you and help you to determine the best option.

Regardless of the type of adoption you choose, it is well worth every penny! 🙂

  • I am adoption a newborn( my daughter Hanna) that is due May 29, 27. I went through a agency and the cost was $250.. Yeah I know alot! As I was going tthrough the adoption process I looked in to adopting through the state which is free. All that you have to do is contact children and familys(health dept branch) in your state and they will guide you, remember it does not cost anything! They do require you to take a 30 hour parenting course but you go 1 a week for six weeks then you are able to adopt! This is how we will adopt our second child! Goodluck!

  • I’ve adopted 3 children. We figure that my wife and I spent about 15 thousand for each. For the most part, the costs don’t change with what culture the child comes from. We loss more because of the time off work that I had to take. Hopwever, it was still worth it.

  • Check in your phone book under Adoption for a number of sources for that answer and then check them all to get the best information. Alot of info is available on the web as well. It depends on the state you live in and what kind of adoption you choose. Like giving birth the cost is of it is only the beginning of a long line of expenses and you can adjust most of them to fit your budget.

There is help to be had but it will never be free. Unlike giving birth if your not financially stable it just isn’t an option in most cases.

  • Depends on how you go about it.

Private adoption and international adoption is very expensive.

Adopting a child from family services is little to no cost. These children have a lot of baggage. But they do have some really great kids. You just have to take your time.

  • I think the specific costs vary based on where you are. In general, if you do a public adoption, through your local Department of Children Services (or whatever it’s called in your area), the costs are minimal. If you decide to go through a private agency, it can be pretty expensive, running 10-15 thousand dollars or more.

We’ve adopted 3 children through public adoptions, and we couldn’t be happier.

  • If you go through the foster care system and give an orphan a family, the costs are pretty much absorbed by the system.
