Salty water is denser than not salty. Temperature is iffy. Below 40F, cold water floats on warm water. Above 40F, warm water floats on cold water. Every fall as the temperature drops below 40F, lakes turn over and carry oxygenated water to the bottom while the cold water freezes on top. In spring the temperature rises above 40F and the lakes turn over again, pulling up fresh nutrients to feed baby bugs and fish.
