Mostly they die of old age, & for a hamster that’s about 3 years! They can get illnesses like other animals & people, we had one that developed a really big growth on its back leg, possibly cancer, & died during surgery. They could die from being handled too roughly, or dropped, or extreme cold I guess. Can withstand a lot though, one of ours went missing for 3 weeks & after giving him up for dead/lost, he dropped down the chimney! Why……….??
