The world hasn’t changed,nor have the people. It’s just that we have the modern media to shove all these tragedies in our faces “Every Hour,On the Hour” whereas back in the old days it might take months for the news of some horror to reach a person.
That such things happen is regrettable,but they have been happening all along,and they shall continue to happen so long as humans exist.
If our media sources were more responsible,then perhaps we wouldn’t be forced to re-live every atrocity time and time again while they waited for the next one to occur.
