What reason should i give for wanting my children to go to a certain school?

We are currently in the process of applying for my two boys to change schools from one area to another. We haven’t moved house, it’s just that we would rather they went to a certain school in another area which is outside of our council area or borough. We have already spoken to the school in question, and also taken the boys to see the school itself, and they loved it.

The school has confirmed they have places for both boys in reception class and year , and the boys are as keen as we are for them to go to this particular school. It has a better Ofsted report, is in a nicer town and area, and there are not so many children who speak foreign languages, instead of English… And come to mention it, teachers as well, who speak foreign languages to the foreign children – not encouraging them to speak English.

We have received the application forms and one of the questions asked is why do you want your children to go to this particular school? We were just unsure as to either what to put or what answer they are actually looking for?

So basically, what answer would anyone recommend?

  • Isn’t it a sad indictment on our society that we don’t feel able to specify that we would like our children to attend a school where English is the central ‘mother’ tongue. You’d think it would be a basic right to live in your own country and have your children taught in that language without any distraction of several other languages in one classroom and without being fearful that you will be thought of as racist simply for wanting that. It’s a known fact that children who speak different languages in one classroom hold back the native English speakers because so much attention has to be given to the foreign children. This social engineering experiment introduced by Mr Blair and partners with the help of the EU is just not working. Good luck to you, I hope you get your children into your preferred school and that they blossom.

  • ” It has a better Ofsted report, is in a nicer town and area” sorta answers your question for yourself. I gather you don’t want to be honest about the foreign thing out of fear racism will fail the question, so bring up your other point about your children loving it.

If the school sees you care for your children education from the first bit, plus your care for their well being by sending them to a school “they loved” they’ll see you as good parents.
