What to expect during my Ellis & Associates Lifeguard Training?

So, I was offered a lifeguard job at Golfland Sunsplash and I have completed my pre-reqs (swim 2m, brick dive, tread water) and was a little behind because I’m out of shape.
But I start the Ellis lifeguard training on Thursday & i just want to know what to expect.
What tests will I be taking? How hard are they, and what do they expect from me?
I just want a piece of mind because I’m very nervous! Thanksss

  • I’m not sure about the Ellis & Associates Lifeguard Training, but the Red Cross Lifeguarding Course isn’t very physically demanding and can be completed by pretty much anyone who passes the pretest (similar to what you described). The two most difficult parts of lifeguard training are:

remembering what you need to do in each emergency (but this will be drilled into you) and instructors kind of expect you not to remember everything 1% on the practical tests.

deep water recovery if you are a poor swimmer. this skill involves pulling someone from the bottom of the pool without a guard tube, and is really only difficult if done/taught incorrectly. It is important to relax when underwater and maybe to practice your frog/breaststroke or scissor kick to ascend from the bottom of the pool more easily.

Basically don’t stress the physical part of the training. most people fail because they don’t remember CPR or fail the multiple choice exam. Both are easily passed if you pay attention and study a little.
