What’s the problem with my computer’s power supply/power cord?

The power supply of my pc (the male panel) makes an electric spark most of the time when I start my PC and sometimes, it interrupts the start up process thus making my computer unable to start at all.

What’s the problem? The PSU or the power cord?

It’s annoying ,because it also makes my PC shutdown sometimes.

Update:

Thank you for the answers guys.

I used the monitor’s cord before into the PSU and vice versa and after a few days (that is today), same problem occured again. I repeated the same method that’s why my computer is working again.

  • In order to figure out if it is the power cord or the power supply of the PC you’re going to have to troubleshoot it a bit.

Try the monitor power cord if it’s the same kind. If you don’t get the sparking, then you know it’s the cable. If you DO get the same sparking then it’s the power supply. The cord is cheap at any Best Buy or even Wal-Mart carries them now, I think. So let’s hope it’s the power cord although that would be the first one I ever heard of going bad.

    Be careful, man!

  • Hi

the power cord is faulty change it before it blows up the power unit in the P.C.

Its a loose connection on the pins as its a moulded plug there is no way to tighten it up.

some of these cable are interchangeable with all sorts of domestic appliances but make sure it has the right size fuse in it it should be less than amps.

Source(s): all to common this fault it is the bain of most people’s lives these moulded plugs on all sorts of equipment.

  • Loose contacts for the Connector to the PSU, look for a connector that fits well or otherwise plug it firmly to fit, The sparking is not good for all electronics.
