What’s with “alkaline diets” and people saying it’s the healthiest way to go?

However pH in the blood is always a balance and a very narrow range, so I don’t understand how people out there are saying that eating an alkaline diet is the healthiest option? If your body becomes TOO alkaline, isn’t that just as life threatening as if it were too acidic?

  • I know that you’re not posing this question seriously, so I will give you a one line answer.

Basic dieting is superlatively healthy, and perfectly safe for your body as it encourages an -extremely- basic eating habit.

  • I highly recommend,”The Ph Miracle”,authored by Dr.Robert O. Young,bio-chemist with multiple phds,in biological research and pioneer of the modern day, emphasis on alkaline food and drink..

You are correct in stating, that the human body is quite adept in maintaining a very narrow range in blood Ph,which according to Dr. Young, should be exactly.7.365…(slightly alkaline)….The body is alkaline by design, yet acidic by function however and therefore, there is an on-going struggle by various organs of the body(pancreas, chief among them) that ensure a healthy Ph,in producing anti-acidic,bi-carbonate buffers…The human body also throws off both weak, medium and strong acids through breathing, sweating and urinating…
As to the question of over-alkalizing the body…No worries..It won’t happen through simply ingesting copious amounts of high alkaline foods…The main reason for consuming a 80/20 alkaline/acid diet is to simply provide a realidly bio-available alkaline supply,so that the pancreas and other organs are not over-stressed with the task….

If the body Does become TOO alakaline,it is Not a sign of health but actually a sign of sickness and disease…The body has over-compensated with bicarbonate buffers,a highly acidic environment…

Much, much, much more on topic…just a few thoughts off the top of my head…Too lazy and tired

  • A lot of the things Westerners are obsessed with- dairy, wheat, caffeine, meat, etc are EXTREMELY acidic, so a focus on alkaline foods is recommended.

Low blood sugar is dangerous, for instance, yet in the West where people gorge on carbohydrates and many are diabetic, low GI-foods are a known concept.

These have to do with the food culture at large existing toward either end of an extreme, not the health of the OTHER extreme.

  • It is healthier to have the right pH, which is more alkaline than average. However raising it with alkaline foods is a load of BS. It might make you slightly more alkaline with a tremendous amount of work, but as you might suspect your body has its own pH regulating system rather than relying on the ever changing whims of your diet. Get 650 mg calcium and 20 IU vitamin D per day and your body will raise your pH to the proper level and keep it there without going higher.

You can get pH tape to check your saliva pH to verify, but not less than 2 hours after you’ve eaten. Drug stores might have it or else go online. It’s cheap.

  • sounds like another fad diet .. imo the key is educating yourself about the different chemicals in foods and containers and gmo’s ect .. and knowing what to avoid .. thats almost everything on the shelf literally .. things like that ‘alkaline’ stuff sound like a joke to me .. ever heard of codex alimentarius .. check that out to, and be sure to dig into the alternative media to get the real deal on it ..

  • Alkaline diet is just another way of saying a diet with more vegetables.
