If I am making a savoury cheesecake as a starter, what would be the appropriate main course to follow?

  • Remember that you can offer as many courses as you like- I mean that the next course doesn’t have to be some kind of heavy meat and 3 veg thing. I would suggest after such a filling and tasty starter, you offer a fresh fruit selection, sorbet, fish/seafood salad, green salad , fruit/veg smoothie or chilled soup shots, or some tasty and sociable pick and mix thing like olives and dips. Allow your guests to digest your rich starter, give them time to chat and relax and make sure their glasses are kept topped up.

Make sure there is something indulgent and gorgeous on your dessert menu to finish up the evening. In my experience of dinner parties, it’s the hors d’oeuvres, starters, alcohol ( cocktails?) and desserts that people enjoy the most, as it allows them to socialise rather than get stuffed on food alone!

Anything that dose not contain Cheese! As the courses should be of different textures, and flavours,

  • the usual rule of thumb is to have each course containing different ingredients. so after a savory cheesecake starter, you might want a fish or meat course followed by a dessert that doesn’t contain cheese. of course you might want to end the meal with cheeses and biscuits too!

  • it sounds like a heavy starter best to choose a light main course like fish
