  • Eco Bags are nice and sturdy, they have the old string weave bags like the ones I grew up with in Europe. These are nice for a couple of reasons – you don’t get accused of shoplifting because they are mesh so you can see through them, they roll up small for transport, and you’re not advertising anyone. I do keep one of their hemp cotton totes for smaller items that might fall through the mesh (for example, cosmetics or jewelry). That one has been through the wash tons and still looks great.

One thing I’ve run into with reusable bags – some stores are ok with it, others get very strange – I’ve had checkers get very insistent that things MUST go in the plastic bags. It’s not worth holding up the line so I usually just rebag it myself and put the plastic bags for recycling. Still, this only happens once in a while.

  • http://www.shoppingbagswholesale.com.au/ is the best place to buy stylish reusable bags for your groceries…

  • well alot of stores are offering them for about 99 cents but check garage sales or just search gorcerie stores near you to find some good bags, most stores offer discounts for using your own bags and its a great way to help the earth. we have been using the same reusable bags for over 12 years and with the 5 cent discount per bag we have saved about 5 dollars in those 12 years of using the bags! they pay for themselves in just one year than they make you money, reusable grocerie bags are an investmeant not only for your walet, but for the earth

  • Two very good places are Trader Joe’s and IKEA. IKEA has a ‘Big Blue Bag’ which lives up to its name (it’s big and blue!) and costs less than $1, though it’s not canvas (more like tarp material).

Trader Joe’s has a number of options. They have a regular canvas bag for $1 and an insulated bag to keep your groceries cold for around $3, as I recall.

I also noticed canvas bags at Safeway for $1 the other day.

  • Most grocery stores have them these days. for about a dollar. I don’t really know about stylish though. I don’t care much for fashion or anything, since I’m a guy, but i guess they’re okay enough.

  • My local grocery store has canvas bags for sale at the checkout stand. I don’t know if you would consider then stylish though.

  • WholeFoods sells them at the checkstands. Also Yahoo!

  • Why do they have to be stylish? Do you want to impress your groceries? I just use some canvas bags I had lying around and that works for me. I don’t care what they look like, as long as they hold my groceries. . ..

  • Why must they be stylish? I think most major department stores are selling canvas totes now.

  • They have been around for years, ever heard of a backpack?

It’s hilarious that some people go out and foolishly spend money to be “fashionably green”. The best thing they can do to be green is get spayed or neutered.
