Where do I go from here?

My now ex boyfriend and I had this amazing one year relationship. We met and ten days later we were dating. He was my entire world and I was his. We never fought, we were always happy and we spent over a year like that.

We broke up because he moved away, but we decided to stay friends. Today, we talked on Skype and we had a long talk, like friends do. My mom found out I was talking to him and wants to take away all my electronics. and is grounding me from ever talking to him again. She doesn’t want him to mess with me or anything. I know he and I are NEVER going to get back together. I know that he doesn’t love me anymore and that my feelings for him are going away as well. I don’t understand why my mom feels like this is necessary. I’m 17, I turn 18 pretty soon. She treats me like I’m a little kid. I know she wants what’s best for me, but is this really necessary? What do I do? Thanks

  • Sounds like she has/had a misunderstanding about why/how you guys broke up.

Just try talking to her – explain that you’re nothing more than friends, that your relationship is in the past, and that you were just talking to him like you were talking to an old friend; nothing more, nothing less. Ask her why it is that she acted that way – make sure she knows that you know where she’s coming from (that she knows what’s best) but that you respectfully think otherwise.

  • You are too young.Your parents are experienced enough too think about your well being. So trust them. This world is too big, filled with many beautiful and caring people.Just forget your uncaring boyfriend and find a better human being who will care for you.Life is too short to lament about past mistakes. So move on.Enjoy your life and be careful regarding the people you induct in your life.
