Where does Pacquiao's power rank among the other Welterweights?

Where does it rank among heavy-hitting Hearns or Langford, etc?

  • Pacquiao’s “power” is mainly due to his volume of punches, most ppl get confused by volume punching and power punching. Since volume will wear opponents down..

  • He has power. Just not a lot. As I’ve said it’s his speed and flurries that count, it wouldn’t matter if he had no power, eventually they’d wear you down and eventually they’d catch you.

I think the likes of Tommy Hearns, Henry Armstrong, Joe Walcott, Sam Langford hit harder. I’d even say that Roberto Duran and Sugar Ray Leonard pack a harder punch in the 140’s than Pacquiao. SRL power is totally underrated – he hit like a truck at jr. welter and welter.

  • If I had to place Pacquiao’s welterweight power in a category, it might be “above average”. Pacquiao steamrolled opponents like David Diaz and Ricky Hatton. That’s because he was at his “natural” weight. I don’t know why he didn’t remain at …………..wait………Oscar, money, welterweight.

That’s what happened. Pacquiao passed through the lightweights quickly, but, then again, he had little to prove there. Still, it remains his best weight class. All the other classes, before lightweight, were just “growing stages”. Even those losses, early in his career, he was just a boy, fighting grown men.

The welterweight division is above Pacquiao’s natural weight. He’s still powerful but he’s not knocking guys over, like he did at lightweight. Manny can hit but, at 147, he is a class below guys like Robinson, Cuevas, Duran or Hearns.

  • ask margarito and cotto….i dont know, man…the ref have to stop the fight so cotto wont take too much damage….margarito’s face was so damaged on the 9th round…the poor guy have to rush to the hospital to save his right eye after the 12th…that ref should be banned from boxing….

why not try to ask cotto and margarito how they rate pac power in the welters?
