Where to go when homeless with a dog?

I’m a 19 year old female, and currently homeless. I have been doing odd jobs (legal jobs, but are under the table and last only a few days) and couch surfing with strangers, but I won’t be able to get back on my feet this way. I want to go to college or at least get a job, but my number one priority is safety. Are there any shelters or programs that would allow me and my dog to stay and provide some sort if stability? I can’t imagine being without him, he’s been my only friend and my protector.

Update:

I make about $1 a month, so I have a phone and I’m using free wi-fi. I also take showers and don’t smell like booze. Please refrain from applying stereotypes; I need help, not criticism.

Update 2:

I’m homeless because my father is homophobic, and thus cannot tolerate my existence. I did not “eff up”, as you put it

Update 3:

My friends can’t support me, and my extended family lives on the other side of the country.

  • Go to a library, go onto Craigslists and look for someone looking for a roommate… then tell them your situation, tell them you have a dog you need, and tell them you’ll be looking for a job. Since you’re 19, a lot of people around your age are looking for roommates.

Alternatively like other’s suggested, get someone to take care of your dog and go to a shelter… but if this was the case I’m sure you could stay with the person with your dog until you got on your feet.

  • most shelters or programs wont allow pets like a dog. You might have a friend keep it till you get on your feet or you may just have to give it to someone or take it to the pound where people are looking for dogs to own. You can always get another dog once you get squared away

  • You go to a shelter and the dog stays with a friend.

I’m unaware of any shelter which accommodates the pets of homeless persons.

  • Do you have any friends, or any relatives at all? I’m really surprised that a 19-years-old has to go homeless because her dad not being able to stand her. I’m sure that your aunt/uncle/grandparents or even a good friend won’t mind you staying with them for a couple of weeks until you get your **** sorted out.

  • No, get rid of the dog. I’m not homeless or poor and have a heck of a time renting with cats that are fixed and declawed.. not many places will let u have a dog. You can’t even support yourself, how fair is it to take a dog down with u. You aren’t even able to rent, no shelters will take u AND ur dog. Sorry, but the dog has to go. I would take care of a friend, but their dog wouldn’t be Welcome.

Source(s): Get rid of it….. ur obviously homeless b/c of poor choices. My parents wouldn’t have let me stay homeless Unless I seriously effed up….I assume this is ur own doing. It’s time to grow up.
Where is ur mother? Is she a homophobe too? Does ur father abuse her so She’s afraid to stand up to him? I’d leave my kids father if he dared tried to kick out our children for being gay….I’m sorry u have this problem….but u gave little detail as to why u were homeless so I could only assume u were into bad stuff. Ur father is a doosh, but the dog still needs to be out of the picture until u get this solved.
