  • The Japanese one. The British one is probably second, but it doesn’t hold a candle to the Japanese one, which is traditionally dated back to the first emperor in 660 BCE. There isn’t much evidence for the first 25 Japanese emperors but even that takes us back to 507 CE, when Britain was still fragmented – the first king of all England was around 3 years later than that.
  • The longest continuous monarchy in the world is Denmark, Copenhagen was the centre of power during the Denmark-Norway union, the Denmark-Swedish union, the Union of Kalmar (all of Scandinavia as one kingdom) and also during the Danish occupation of western Britain (Danelaw), Unlike all other European kingdoms which existed during the period 1939-1948, the Danish monarch did not abdicate his authority or go into exile during that countries period of occupation.

The Japanese Imperial family has the longest authenticated traceable lineage going back to c.660BC. From the mid 17th century to the late 19th century, monarchical authority was vested in the Shoguns.

  • The world’s oldest monarchy currently in existence is in Japan. Founding date: c. 660 BC.
The first monarchy to exist however, would be what archaeologists discovered in Qustul prior to the building of the Aswan dam in the 1970s

however Bruneians are proud to have the world’s oldest reigning monarchy and centuries of royal heritage. At the helm of the only remaining Malay Islamic Monarchy in the world, the Sultan of Brunei comes from a family line that dates back over 6 years to 1405 when the first Sultan ascended the throne, founding a dynasty of which the current Sultan, His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, is the 29th ruler. http://travelspedia.com/South-East-Asia/…
