Why? Because it’s a SCHEDULED day / night doubleheader at the Arizona Diamondbacks in Phoenix (inter-league games) – not a rain cancelled makeup game (Chase Field has a retractable roof) and Rangers haven’t been there yet this season. Oddly, Tuesday is an off day with the Rangers and D’backs playing again on Wednesday and Thursday.
Unlike in the “old days” when frequent doubleheaders regularly took place in MLB, you could see two games for the price of one. In this case, it will require two admissions – one for each game.
Same players? Yes. However, each team could use some different starting players in the two games
to give them some rest.
Why MLB schedule? Trying to figure how MLB schedules work requires inside “knowledge”.
It’s called a doubleheader, it usually happens when a game gets rained out, and they need to reschedule it later in the year. They use some of the same players, and some get half a day off
baseball is not as physically tough as american football or ice hockey so they can handle it. the starting pitcher will be different but aside of it, the lineup won’t be any different, just the normal changes you’d always do.
MLB schedules like that because they play 162 games in six months. there barely is any space to reschedule games without causing a double header (yes, two games on one day is a double header).
It appears as though it was scheduled as a Holiday doubleheader, something they had all the time into the early 80s.
yet another solid question is why are the pink Sox and Yankees commencing day after today, yet having off Tuesday? basically the way the schedule is going in lots of cases whilst baseball starts MLB loves to take it sluggish and positioned extra days off in the commencing up and end of the schedule somewhat than in the middle.
It’s a Doubleheader
I’m assuming they are making up for a game that has been rained out. They will play back to back with the same players as they normally would.
