The apple is a pome, a fleshy fruit with a thin skin. The flesh is not formed from the flower’s ovary but from another part of the plant, the stem thalamus. These are sometimes called Accessory Fruits. The seeds are contained in stiff walled chambers, carpels, in the center of the fruit that are the true ovary.
The fruit’s edible flesh grows from the end of the flower stem, the thalamus. This structure supports the ovary in a cup shape. The pome flower’s carpels, that hold the seeds, are found at the bottom of the cup shaped thalamus, which grows into the fruit’s flesh surrounding the ovary as it matures.
The carpels of the apple grow in an axile placentation (around the central axis) with two ova per capel attached to the ovary. This way the ovary is sectioned by radial spokes that look like a star when cut across the fruit’s axis.
Appleseeds typically measure between 1/8 and 1/4 inch long. Each apple core has five carpels, which develop from the female flower ovaries. When an apple is cut in half from side to side, rather than from top to bottom, the carpels form a star shape with five points. Since each carpel contains between one and three apple pips, a typical apple has between five and 10 seeds. In general, the more pips an apple has, the larger the fruit.

Sometimes puppies are just puppies, and sometimes apples are just apples. I would assume that maybe Martha Stewart knows an actual answer to this question, but I am going with sometimes apples are just apples and maybe they were created that way so it would look pretty when we sliced them. Housewives get bored sometimes. Sometimes when you slice roma tomatoes it looks like a heart.
