Why does my Internet disconnect and reconnect repeatedly when I first turn the computer?

or when it resumes from being idle, i have a wired connnection to a lynksis router with xbox 360, also it seems like once a day i get disconnected from Xbox Live then i have strict nat, and I have to go to the router config webpage to restore factory settings then enable upnp to fix it again and make the nat open

  • You could try and set the IP Address automatically. To do this, right click on ‘My Network Places’ then click on ‘properties’ you will now find an icon named ‘Local Area Connection’ right click on it and select properties’ now highlight the icon named ‘Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

now click on ‘properties’ (right hand side) check the Dot named ‘Obtain an IP Address automatically’

If this is already checked you will have to enter you router and change the IP configuration for the Xbox.

Some routers have web access by entering there address in your browser. Bt address is 192.168.1.254 other routers use 192.168.1.1

Also make the Xbox a static IP address

  • This IP conflict is usually caused when one computer goes to sleep and then you turn on another one. The router has given the sleeper an IP address but then thinks it has gone away so it gives the same address to the new one Then when the sleeper wakes up there are two trying to use the same address. Usually this should be resolved by turning all devices fully off. your going into to reset all the parameters in the router seems like overkill.
