  • this answer is from a muslim:The rule is that a widow should remain in her husband’s house during this time because she is entitled to shelter and support while she makes plans and arrangements for her future, and also out of respect for her husband who has died. please dont take some of the other answers as truth because they just say stuff to make islam look bad.

    @Zuhal, this time period is based on how long it took to confirm a pregnancy at the time. A similar time period is required after a divorce, isn’t it? I said nothing derogatory about your religion – all I said was the reason for using this particular length of time.
